All Tied Up

One of the favorite stories that I tell my kids about when I was young is the story of what "my" Dad would do when "my" sisters fought. When Jayleen and Janell were about 8 and 10 years old they used to get into fights with each other. To get them to stop fighting and be nice to each other, my Dad would tie them together until they could get along. No Joke. Once when they were mad, he made them give each other a hug and then tied them together that way. They started out mad, but they would always end up laughing and having fun. My kids think that story is so funny, so they always ask if I would tie them together like that. They don't really get that it was meant as a punishment. So today when my Mom and Dad and Jayleen came down, they asked about the story again and then asked if Papa would tie them up. They came down stairs with all kinds of belts and scarfs and string that could be used to tie them together. Papa Nana and Aunt Honey (Jayleen) all got in on the gig and decided to do it up right. It then became quite a challenge to see if they could tie the girls up so they couldn't get loose.

The girls giggled through the whole process giving token sighs of disbelief as Papa, Nana and Honey continued to wrap, tie and knot the them all together. As they made their attempt to get loose, I think they were surprised at how tough it really was. They twisted and wiggled and started to get loose, but inevitably ended up falling over in a big knotted heap. And they enjoyed every minute of it!
